Two functions in one piece: it raises the keyboard and it carries the wrists, which is different from a flat cushion sitting in front of a keyboard lying flat.

Lifting the board tilts how you type, and that in turn changes where the wrists sit — they line up with the forearm instead of bending upward to reach the keys. Fingers and joints work at less of an angle as a result.
