Slot width sets between 0.43 and 1.38 inches. Screws and a screwdriver are supplied, and assembly needs no particular skill.

Silicone pads underneath stop it travelling when a machine is pulled out one-handed — the failure that topples a badly made dock.

Docked upright, a laptop sits clear of spilled coffee and anything knocked off a shelf, and the exposed shell sheds heat more freely while charging.

The second slot need not hold a laptop: a phone, a keyboard, or a book fits equally well.
